The ENERGISE project aims at boosting the contribution of a HEIs' network in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania working on Energy Engineering curricula to promote access to energy, efficiency and related socio-economic development.
The project purpose is to upgrade quality, capacity and multi-stakeholders partnerships and to involve local enterprises or NGOs as well as ministerial department or rural agencies working at different levels on energy access.
With ENERGISE project, the Consortium has set the specific objective in capacity building for delivering high quality, market-driven curricula in Energy Engineering focused on sustainability, innovative technologies and modern renewable energies relevant to the energy asset within the target region.
The 5 main results
Picture of the current status of education in energy engineering extended to the three partner countries
There is a need to understand the national situation in order to avoid duplication of efforts and to take into consideration any progress or needs even outside the consortium, therefore. Comprehensive assessment study for the current status of energy engineering in the partners countries will be conducted.
Upgrading of Faculty members competences in innovative technologies and modern renewable energies
together with academic staff capacity building in advanced teaching methods.
Intensive courses for Faculty staff competence upgrading and HEIs Staff capacity and attitude reinforcement will be organized and delivered.
Collective design and the delivery of a new market driven high quality Sustainable Energy Engineering Master of Science
This is a key element to contribute to enforce the capacity building with an on the job approach. The main activities to achieve results will be joint curricula development, facilities upgrading with appropriate technologies for teaching laboratories in energy engineering, Identification and set up of a Quality control System for Teaching and finally the pilot Launching of the MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering.
Regional and integrated network of HEIs open to public and private stakeholders for promoting efficiency and access to energy
Networking is mandatory to promote capacity building within a joint and collaborative framework including academia, institutions and enterprises. Therefore E-collaborative platform for networking will be defined and joint events or projects between HEI, private and public stakeholders will be planned and organised.
South-South knowledge transfer for curricula upgrading in the energy field as effective measure of the Participative Project Management structure and Multi stakeholders Dissemination plan
Dissemination of project results to different stakeholders (from other HEIs to policy makers). The effectiveness of the process of capacity building will be proved since a Knowledge Transfer Dedicated Seminar will be organised autonomously by the partner HEIs to other HEIs staff member not belonging to the consortium.
The associated activities are therefore, the Organization and delivery of a South-South Knowledge Transfer Dedicated Seminar in other HEIs regarding the lesson learnt on the implementation of Sustainable Energy Engineering curricula and the Multi -stakeholders Dissemination plan. Also the Participative Project Management is included in this results since due to its participative nature will be an element of the on the job capacity building.
Politecnico di Milano is the coordinator of the project due to his great experience in the field of Energy R&D projects developed by the Energy Department The Energy Department has joined together different skills existing at Politecnico di Milano in various fields of engineering to provide, through a interdisciplinary approach, convenient solutions to the complex problems that currently affect the energy sector. Its goal is to provide constant initiative in the development of R&D projects, supporting the advanced activities of the main industries and promoting collaboration with other partners operating in the energy field. Professors and research fellows of the Energy Department have primary teaching responsibilities and perform activities in all the faculties of Politecnico di Milano.
